In Thailand as well as San Francisco and many other places, people gathered to pay respect and it was so touching for me to witness such an…

I was flying back home last week and saw a movie on the plane called “Lost in Hong Kong” It was basically a story of regret. There were these two art students who grew close to each other. While working on painting projects, BUT every time they were going to kiss, they were interrupted by some one. In the end, they the female student left for an art program at…

Dhamma Thoughts By Paul Buckley

October 27, 2016

I am often asked by people in conversation “Can you believe that happened?!”. Usually this comes up after a gruesome news story. My thought is yes I can believe that happened. I believe it happened because that is the world today. What happened is part of what humans do. It is part of what happens in this world. There is yet to be something that I am not shocked a…

I Deserve It

October 20, 2016

In one of the Dhamma classes broadcasted by Wat San Fran Dhammaram, I listened to the story of Prince Siddhartha and his love for his wife, Yashodara. There was no doubt that Yasodhara was the perfect wife for Prince Siddhartha. They had been together for so many lifetime. There was no other human being more suitable for Yashodara but Prince Siddhartha. There were many reasons why they should be together:…

Get Your Grimey Hands Off My Teacup

October 20, 2016

The reason I chose this story to share is it uses one of my all-time favorite contemplation methods. The method comes directly from a teaching Luang Por Thoon gave to a man named Singh that quickly led to his enlightenment.  The method is essentially asking a series of questions about objects we ‘own’ in order to better understand the nature of the objects (impermanent) and our relationship with those objects…

Double Standards

October 20, 2016

One morning at the KPY retreat, I heard someone talking.  I was awake already and took a look at my watch.  It was 6am.  My first thought was “wow that person is talking loud and there are other people who are probably still asleep.”  AND YES, I said to myself, that I wouldn’t do that, I’d be more considerate.  We’ll I got up a little while later and after cleaning…
